ANALISIS PEMBUATAN BIODIESEL DARI MINYAK JELANTAH
Abstract
This study aimed to convert used cooking oil into biodiesel, so it can be used as fuel. Synthesis of biodiesel was done via transesterificationwithout esterification at 40oC, 50oC, and 60oC, and with variation time of 60, 90, and 120 minutes, the amount of base catalyst NaOH 0.5%, 0.75% and 1% in the ratio of reactants 1: 6, 1: 8, and 1; 10. The transesterification by esterification was carried out at 60°C for 60 minutes and 70°C for 30 minutes, amount of 1% H2SO4 catalyst weight oil, reactant ratio 1: 6, followed by transesterification process temperature at 40oC, for 120 minutes, the amount of 1% NaOH catalyst with the reactant ratio of 1: 4. The results showedthat the best process condition of making biodiesel is transesterification without esterification at 40oC, for 120 minutes, with 0.5% NaOH catalyst and methanol to oil ratio of 1: 6.Performance test was also performed on diesel engines with the best blending betwen biodiesel and solar, by considering aspects of engine torque, power, and fuel consumption. The performance engine test results, showed that there was no significant difference for each mixture in torque and power characteristics, the mixture of B10 gave the most efficient of fuel consumption.
