PENGGUNAAN METODE ELEKTROKOAGULASI SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF PENGOLAHAN AIR BERSIH TANPA BAHAN KIMIA

Abstract


Water purification of river and reservoir waters for oil palm processing is conducted at water treatment plant in palm oil mill. In external water treatment usually use of chemicals in coagulation process to decrease suspended and dissolved solids. Application of electro-coagulation method was conducted is an initial research to find more effective ways in water processing and reducing use of chemicals also environmental friendly. This research as a purpose for determine optimum treatment about influence of variation electricity voltage and long of duration time contact electrode with water about TDS parameter, turbidity, and pH of water, how effective electrocoagulation method in process clean water, and for comparison rate of cost of necessary.The result of this research can be shown that decreasing on turbidity and total dissolved solid (TDS) on water, the optimum in this electrocoagulation research be with treatment make use the voltage as big as 25 volt, with duration of electrocoagulation process during 60 minute be able reducing to turbidity parameter out of beginning value as many 186 FTU become 3 FTU and TDS parameter beginning  value as much 125 ppm become to 65 ppm,produce result of effectiveness percentage reduction TDS parameter at reservoir water as many 56,61 % and at water river as many 49,33 % for effectiveness percentage turbidity parameter at water reservoir as many 91,13 % and at water river as many 97,80 %. Electrocogulation method cost money as many Rp 10.23,-/ liter water process, whereas jartest method cost money as many Rp 35.10,- / liter water process.
